Calcutta is the cheapest option as far as
1. Renting / buying an officeplace goes. Less costlier that Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Bhubaneswar.
2. Skilled manpower within reasonable range of salary. [ Cost of living is cheaper than in other Metro cities]
3. The state govt. is actively participating in enhancing the IT boom. Encouraging foreign investments and giving land @ cheap rate.
4. All facilities available [ phone, internet connection, transportation, electricity etc]

1. Is it cheaper than Pune? I don't know the rates.
2. Pune is better than Calcutta on this point.
3. May be. But we know our govt
4. Same with Pune.
5. Many well known software companies are located in Pune.
6. Mumbai is the nearest Metro city. It's a BIG plus.
7. Bangalore is also near to Pune comparing to Calcutta. It's also a BIG plus.

Dinkar, how much it costs to rent a 1000 sq ft office in Pune?
Calcutta is a Metro city by its own right. I have lived in Pune and now living in Calcutta. My purse says it is cheaper. And Salt Lake sector 5 has all the leading IT firms...
But I must say that I am not trying to diminish Pune anyway. Its a good place. Calcutta is pocket friendly and you can do good business from here. Just that.

Hi friend,
Wondering why u have not thought of Chennai. Chennai & Bangalore is the best choice for you. Here you can comparatively get cheaper everything like office, manpower etc. than Pune, Mumbai and bangalore.
This city is best source for man power which is the most important factor in software company. I myself being in the field, I can vouch for it. If you need any further help shoot the mail. Thanks

I assume that Broadband access is readily available in all of those places?
To set up a business and purely rely on dial-up would now be unthinkable here in UK.
