I am considering paid inclusion to launch a new site I am responsible for, IQstorage.com. And I don't necessarily mean inclusion like Inktomi but also cheap submissions like IneedHits.com just to get submitted into all the major ones.

Which ones do you recommend? Also, AddMe.com has a paid inclusion. Anyone tried that?

Any other ideas for Internet promotion for an FTP storage site? How in the name of heck did FilesAnywhere and MyDocsOnline do it? Their domain names stink and they don't even offer FTP!

I've been reading the various posts on the subject of redirection. I have two questions.

    (1) Discussion thus far appears to be centered on either META or Java redirects. What about "forwarding" of one domain to another at the ISP level (all domains on same ISP)? I've recently acquired several domains, and until I can complete content for them, I've asked my ISP to simply forward visitors to my main domain. Is this going to cause trouble? Should I submit these new "forwarded" domains to the SE's, or wait till they have content?

    (2) I could create a "404 error" page that doesn't automatically redirect, but suggests that if a visitor wants to go to my main domain they opt in by clicking on a hyperlink. Is this likely to be viewed negatively by SE's? Is there another "nicer" way to deal with 404's and similar errors that won't look like spam?

    Thanks for your assistance.

    Welcome to the SE forums.
I do not recommend using any service that is automated for something as important as submitting to the search engines.

Anything that re-submits is also highly NOT recommended. Your site is fairly well ready but it might be a good idea to cruise around here and pick up a few more tips re content etc.

A search here on the term auto submission services or some such will bring up threads which also answer your question.

    Hi,

    To answer:

    (1) When your ISP "forwards" your domains to your main site, they can do it using a few methods - I am assuming they are managing your DNS settings.

They can URL forward ie. within a frame - if they do this, they are still using Javascript. You can tell if your ISP is doing it by looking at the source code of the redirected domain to see if it is in frames. However, more likely they will use CNAME or IP mapping - so the domain names point directly to your current site.

Even so, SE's may see this as spam. A couple of years ago I had a lot of domain names CNAME to my current domain - they were all removed from all the major SE's recently. Just submit your main domain name. I would advise against submitting multiple domain names that point to the same site in case your main site gets banned too.

    (2) It's not a good idea to point to 404 errors as all search engines will remove the site if they detect a 404 error - whether it be Yahoo (directory) or Google (SE). I think you mean redirecting 404 errors to a separate page. That is fine, and should not be considered spam at all. If you mean pointing your other domain names to another page, which has a link to your main page, then this is known as "doorway pages" and some SE's consider them to be spam, unless you load them up with content.

    Hope this helps a bit.

Hi and thanks for the hearty welcome!

Actually I have been an intermittent visitor here for a while. You guys are great when it comes to advice.

The reason I want to submit with an autosubmitter is that, yes, the major engines should be done by hand, but the 200+ smaller ones, well, its just not worth the time.

So I'm thinking AddMe paid submit, but that also submits to the good ones and it recurs each month. But it is also it pretty cheap, $30, and lasts a year and has a lot of FFA's which make it great for boosting Google rankings. I think about 3000 entries total.
Another option is the IneedHits 300 search submit. Only $3 I think. Usually they have a sale. It submits once to a lot of the small guys.

So I guess the question is, how should I get into the smaller guys?

cyman - I hear what you're saying - and I sympathise, we all submit the majors by hand and I often used to think about these 35 dollar x 3000 SEs deals. So I tried one once, years ago, and am still getting spam email by the ton.

What you do when you sign up for these deals is effectively give your email address to the entire Internet!

If you do have a dabble - get a hotmail account specially for it - and those sites that require an email address associated with the site - dont do it.

    Cymann,

A great many of the paid submission programs send your site to FFA pages, dead search engines, or geographically-specific engines (like CyberEthiopia).

I suggest the EasySubmit at ScrubtheWeb.com, Jimtools' Submitter, the Inktomi and Lycos paid inclusion programs (both cheap) and hand submitting to the larger search engines.
