Hi all,
I was wondering what the disadvantages of using session id's and the best way to work around them.
All advice would be greatly appreciated

Session ID creates conflicts for bots crawling your site - this is an indexing issue. Indexing issue isn't something to take lightly as your site/pages simply cannot rank if not indexed 
You may consider URL rewrite as a solution.
