Hello Everyone,
Our company would like to setup a blog that deals with industry news for one of our products.
We are wondering if it would be more beneficial to have the blog as part of our our own domain (ex. www.company.com/blog) or have it's own domain (ex. www.companyblog.com)?
We see pros and cons to both sides. On one hand, we can use our existing page rank and link popularity that we have with our own site. On the other hand, having a site dedicated to the blog would allow us to focus on different keywords that we do not currently rank well for.
Anyone have any experience with this? Any research to show a difference either way?
TIA

I would personally go for www.company.com/blog because then it shows it's part of you, and just feels better to me, not much of an arguement I know

Agree with dudibob. Plus one big site is easier to promote than two. You can pull traffic for the other keywords via the blog.

# 3 in agreement - keep it as part of your site given the option.

You might want to reconsider using 'blog' as part of the domain name though. It is a very logical idea that may not do what you would want.
For instance, if you intend to host AdSense (or similar) adverts, you will have lots of adverts about blogs rather than ones that match up with your actual content.
