With regard to site optimization, are there any caveats that I should be aware of if a client is using a server side scripting language?

Biggest problem is "duplicate content" - the same content at multiple URLs.

You have to be very careful to avoid doing that.

    Biggest problem

Duplicate content can definitely be an issue--but I would say that you can also add "having too many parameters in the URL" as another huge issue (i.e., uncrawlable URLs).

    So, we have:
    duplicate content
    uncrawlable URLs
    cookies
too many parameters in the URLs
