I have ventured into what was once the unknown...to me, I built my own website. A year ago I would have never dreamed of doing this. Now I know there are some diehards out there that grew up in this world of technology, but not me. The site I built is very basic, and I used Yahoo site builder to do it. It was so easy to do too. And when business picks up I'll probably build a better eye appealling site.

It is for a very small local business that my Fiance(does anyone know how to put ' above the e?) anyway, I have been frantically registering my URL wherever I can. But I am having trouble veiwing in search engines. About a week after I published the site I was able to do a search on Yahoo using the keywords "brow waxing Milwaukee" and it would be there right on the first page. I was very happy, after all what good is a website, if people cannot find it! Then I did a little research and desided to change my keywords(meta tags)I kept all the same ones I had but added a few. Now I cannot find my site. I also have register my URL on google using Google add URL but why can't I find my site when search with keywords?, will this take time, and what the heck does Google sitemap do?

How about any of the different packages you can buy to help promote a site, like www.submit-it.com/features.htm#small-business-directory package or registereverywhere.com? Are these worth to money, what will they do for me?

I just want to promote this site with as little money spent as possible. And also, if I fix something within the site, then re-publish it, will I have to wait all over again for the crawlers to find it?

OBTW, here it is if anyone wants to critique it, please be gentle.

I never used Yahoo site builders, so i dont know how the coding is, so i cant tell you about that.
Submitting your site is useless, just build your site and make it be reasy for search engines spiders to crawl and wait, with yahoo it takes several months and with google it can take up to 1 year, if you get good incoming links it goes faster.
Do this to see if your site has been indexed by typing site:www.widgets.com (example) it shows if your web site is already in their SERP's and been indexed. If you know for sure it is and cant find it, then my guess is the first time keyword 'brow waxing Milwaukee' was more unique and has less competition then the new keyword you have designed your site for.

First off thank you for the reply. And second, what are "incoming links"? I have heard this term a lot, but not familiar with it. As far as using site builder, I have no basis for comparison, but the keywords(meta tags) are inputted in the "page properties" you just add the words in consession, and then when you veiw the source through the browser, you will see them, as "meta tags" in the htlm format. Question is I don't know if there is a limit, and when I go and add more then publish, does(or should I say) will it affect the previous status of the existing keywords? And does the order of the words effect anything?

I did the site:www****.com and my site is in there system, but why can't I find them using the keywords?

what are "incoming links"?

When Site_A link to Site_B, that link is called incoming link of Site_B.

Submit your site to different directories to get more such incoming links.

why can't I find them using the keywords?

You are not the only one who are using those keywords. Many many sites are using it and trying to rank high on search engines. You need to optimize your site to get high search engine ranking.

Read this forums for next 15 days to get familiar with SEO (Search Engine Optimiz(s)ation). Then ask questions to learn more.

Best of luck smile
