The Google search engine is one of the most complex systems in the world, maybe people struggle to understand how it works. but as a scaled down version:
Google uses automated robots (AKA spiders) to 'surf' the web following only links on sites (not using the address bar) to find other sites and figure out a giant network that is the web and saves a copy of every page (the cache).
Google then uses the cache to rank pages in the SERPs, so even if you update something on your site, it won't affect the SERPs right away, you have to wait until they respider the page and obtain a new cache.

website architechture, internal linking structure, technical aspects like code optimisation etc., deep link ratio, LSI ratio, placement of keywords, web hosting location, url, domain age etc.
