In your experience through these years, do you think taking risks are worth going for in terms of SEO? I mean, if you know you can definitely improve the SEO on a website (that has a high enough ranking) in many ways, would you grab the opportunity to increase its rankings knowing that you will decrease for a short period of time? hmm..I don't know if I explained that right, I hope you guys can get the picture though.
Your opinions would be greatly appreciated.

The risk takers may see short terms gains, but there are long term consequences.

I ask because I am working on a website that is missing a lot of key components to SEO. However, over the years, they have climbed up to the top 10 on SERPs, but don't you think adding to the current settings would improve their ranks even more? I find that they have hit a stall and can't go any further. Sure they are top 10, but the competition in this niche is really crazy. Having that top 5 would be even better.

I am also facing similar situation for one of my website. The website is really performing well on Google, ranking in top 10 for many keywords but it is not the case with Yahoo.
Now I have a challenge to achieve top rankings on Yahoo also without taking any risk of losing rankings on Google. This situation put me in dilemma how to proceed with the optimization.
Please suggest if there is some special way to optimize the site for Yahoo only without affecting the current rankings on Google.
Thanks in advance.

The risk is worth taking if proper research is done before making any amendments. Moreover, SEs continuously keep on changing their algorithm, so you also have to make the changes to improve or maintain the ranking.

You think you're flying beneath the radar?
You are probably not.
