Hi,

I am very new to websites and business. People I know keep telling me that I need to optimize my site but I don't understand what they are telling me to be truthful.

I have done my company website myself and followed some advice on this website and have got my homepage at least to PR3 since it appeared on Google search.

I would be really grateful if some of you could have a look at my site and give me some professional pointers on what needs to be done to improve ranking and also check to see if it is search engine friendly.

website is www.freelanceoverseas.com

Many thanks in advance.

Ben

You need to improved the navigational menus of your site. You need to add a sitemap as to be crawl by the search engine and you need to include also the copyright trademark.

make sure you have unigue meta tags and titles for each page, and I wouldn't put your domain name in the title anymore.

As your using joomla, I would install ARTIO JoomSEF, make sure you get the paid version, the free version has some issues.

I also use a mambot called JoomSEO which will generate your titles and meta on the fly. Some people don't like it, but it will show you what the se's are getting and you will be amazed that it not what you want. It will force you to rewrite you content to give the SE's what you and they want.

next you need to create the 301 redirect in your .htaccess file. Make sure you have SEF enabled in your global config.
here is a simple one, there are many switches, but this is simple
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^putyourdomainnamehere.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.putyourdomainnamehere.com/$1 [R=301,L]

this will redirect the nonwww to www and solve a duplication issue

Hey Ben

I am not sure how you are PR3 ( I tried it several times) when it's not even showing up on Google's PR checker. But that may very well be they have a burp in their system.. it happens. In regards to your questions I have to agree with "guinanie" those little details are very important. I do have a question who translated this for you? I am Italian who also happens to read and write 5 languages and I have to tell you.. ehumm it "sucks" lolol

nothing will do it better than manual translation

I have downloaded ARTIO JoomSEF and JoomSEO

read through their forums to see how they work or hire someone. Install them and run them, just make sure that you make the changes to your .htaccess and turn on sef url's
