Blogs are very popular and are effective in promoting sites. You can submit your blog to blog directories and also bookmark them in social networking sites. Ping your blogs to update the different search engines that your blog has been updated. Blog commenting will get more views to your blog.

Hi,
Could someone please tell me how to go about pinging blogs once they are set up?
I am looking at setting up a blog at blog (uk), blog (com) and wordpress, so 3 in total with the same content more or less.
Thank you kindly.

*** three in total with the same content more or less ***
Bad plan.
Google doesn't like the same thing at multiple URLs.

Thanks for that g1smd.
I had read about duplicate content on here, but also read that people have set up blogs with differnet blog companies, such as the main ones.
So I guess I will use just 1 blog company in that case. Am I correct with that?
If so is word press the best out there for general blogs, such as parties?
Many thanks again and I forgot to introduce myself to everyone, so hello.

As far as promoting your blog and becoming popular - SEO, etc, which company you use does not really matter - however, many people seem to prefer wordpress (although I personally use blogger).
One HUGE piece of advice though, host the blog on your own domain, not the blog softwares domain. This is very important for long term success as some day in the future you WILL want to move it to your own domain but will be stuck.

Ah really. Thanks for that.
However if I do add the blog on to my domain and I add my articles and text to the blog, won't that be considering duplicating as I will have the articles and text on my website too.
So it will be there twice in effect.
Hope this makes sense and you see what I mean by this.
Thanks.

Yes, that would be duplicating - it would also be duplicating if they were on your blog hosted at Blogger and your site. I would probably recommend posting the full article in one location (on site or blog) and then in the other just have a snippet or intro to the article with a link to its full location.
Original content will be your friend.

Thanks Vanachte.
All makes sense to me. I will do that.
I will add the original to my website and have smaller amounts on the blogs.
Can I link from the blog to the full article (and use keywords in the title of the url - anchor text i believe I have read on here)?
Thanks again.

Sure thing, West Wing. You could link your article to your site from your blog. Work on original content, remember!

Great thanks very much for the answers everyone.
I am now of the opinion of trying to add a blog to my existing website rather than having a seperate website and a seperate blog.
Is it best to add the blog to my website or have a seperate blog and website in your opinions?
Reading up on Word Press blogs and adding them to my existing website looks quite difficult to me to be honest, going on about server settings and such.
And then there is the design aspect of things, as in my website has been built and I cannot seem to replicate the colours, settings and layout to be the same in the blog - does this really matter for SEO and people finding me?
So I guess the main question here is really shall I integrate the blog to my existing website or build a new blog with blogger or wordpress and have them pointing across to the main website?
Thanks again, I am sure I will get in it the end
