Hi All,
I have a website which is currently www.domain.com and we have regional variations www.domain.com/uk, www.domain.com/us, www.domain.com/aus etc etc and due to technological constraints I think we need to change this to start using sub domains on a country level so uk.domain.com, fr.domain.com, pl.domain.com. The current website using sub folders has a really good position in google but I would like to know what people think the affect would be if we change to the new sub domain method. Im worried that its going to dilute our presence?

edited.. cause i see what you mean now. tricky one this. It shouldnt affect traffic if you 301 everything, but its not a guarantee. I'd expect to see some drops in stats in the short term until the new sites are fully indexed.

Agreed - But we are going from 4 urls that span the entire world to a specific sub dmoain to each country - how would a SE handle the fact that we might have a hundred plus entrys for each sub domain?

theres no definite answer to this, especially now you're talking about 100 domains rather than jkust a handful
If i'm right what I think what you're suggesting is having 100 or so different sub domains all linked to each other, with similar (though not identical) content, and would this cause penalties? Thats very difficult to answer to be honest, but i'd say yes it may be risky.
Id implement what youre suggesting slowly, and monitor the results. You could also try dropping google themselves a line, as its the kind of thing they'd normally give you an answer for.
