I'm using Visual Page 2.0 by Symantec as my html editor and I have these tags that visual page automatically adds in the <headhead> area. My question is which tags are totally necessay and should not be removed and which tags can be removed?<META NAME="VPSiteProject" CONTENT="file:///C|/Acp/Project.vpp"> <META NAME="GENERATOR" Content="Visual Page 2.0 for Windows"> I know what TITLE tags are but Visual Page gives me a title tag and a meta name title why do I have two instances here. Again these are generated by Visual page. <META NAME="Title" CONTENT="latinasinc.com"> Does anyone know anything about this? [This message has been edited by RodB (edited 02-23-2000).]

I've seen a couple of sites pleace the noframes tag in different places. One was places after the </frameset> tag, and another was placed inside of the this tag. Could somebody tell me where is the correct place to insert the noframes tag? Thanks

Does the name of your homepage effect your position (ie, will index.html rank higher than home.html?). Also, would there be a difference in ranking for www.sitename.com/, www.sitename.com/home.html or www.sitename.com/index.html.

I often wonder if it's even worth the effort any more. When I first started building traffic for my sites on a serious basis I paid for a 1-year license with Exploit's Submission Wizard. The results were good enough I paid for a second year. I did not renew the license when it ran out last time.You seem to get banned by a lot of search engines if they detect your use of a submission program, or if not banned then at least ranked poorly. Also, they may be submitting your sites to hundreds of directories and engines, but who visits all those places? I think the promotional technology has changed so much the submission tools are starting to hurt more than they help. I don't want to be listed on 4000 search engines and directories if my listings are buried deep down in the pile or if no one is going to those places. I'll take 1 or 2 really good listings done by hand if they produce the kind of traffic I want.

I am not a html expert.However, I place the NOFRAMES tag after the </frameset> tag and it works for keyword hiding with the SEs that will still index the NOFRAMES part. [This message has been edited by Schlitzer (edited 02-02-2001).]

You only have two choices for your home page:index.htm (.asp, .jsp, etc...) or default.htm (.asp, .jsp, etc...) Yes, file names do play a role in the overall optimization of a site. You should name your pages accordingly, something like this: http://www.yourdomain.com/keyword-phrase.htm P.S. You can read a little more about this theory here: http://searchengineforums.com/Forum37/HTML/000210.html [This message has been edited by pageoneresults (edited 03-14-2001).]

Amen.davidku- stick around, read the forums and <b>submit manually</b>. There are really not more than 10 search engines worth submitting to and it would take you 15 minutes to submit to all of these. The time consuming parts are 1) optimizing your site to come up near the top for one or more of these engines and 2) preparing your site to get into the good directories.

Adding content is always a good idea, stories, pictures or links are good places to start.

Wait a minute just got off the VP site. Here's what their support guys say.Title META Tag: <META NAME="Title" CONTENT="content goes here"> For those engines that use META Tags, this will allow your page to have a secondary Title. I find this useful with certain visual editors that like shoving the Title tag down below the META tags and just above the Head ending area. Visual Page is one such editor known for this. For those engines that do not view META tags, you will have to move the Title in the correct area with a simple text editor just as NotePad or UltraEdit-32 <http://www.ultraedit.com/>. What do they mean by this? Then they say: Unfortunately, VP2 sticks the project tag as the first, and you cannot change that. So this is where the Title Tag comes in to play for those SEs that use META Tags. Not all SEs (Search Engines) use META tags. For those that do, your META Title tag should be noticed first. Here is a sample of my META tags. How does this relate to what they are saying
<HEAD> <META HTTP-EQUIV="Content-Type" CONTENT="text/html;CHARSET=iso-8859-1"> <META NAME="VPSiteProject" CONTENT="file:///C|/Acp/Project.vpp"> <META NAME="Description" CONTENT="LATINAS inc.com the Hottest Site on the Net for Latina Models!"> <META NAME="keywords" CONTENT="latina models, latina model management, latina pics, latinas sexy, sexy latinas, latinas lindas, latinas"> <META NAME="Title" CONTENT="LATINAS inc.com. The Primere Site on the Net for Latina Models"> <META NAME="copyright" CONTENT="January 2000"> <META HTTP-EQUIV="Expires" CONTENT="Tue, 01 Jan 1980 1:00:00 GMT"> <META HTTP-EQUIV="Pragma" CONTENT="no-cache"> <!-- The only Site on the Net for Latina Models. LATINAS inc.com is your Source Marketing & Advertising with Latina Models. -->
<META NAME="GENERATOR" Content="Visual Page 2.0 for Windows"> <TITLE>LATINAS inc.com. The Primere Site on the Net for Latina Models</TITLE> </HEAD> I Hope someone can clear this up for me.
Th@nks a Bunch!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fred

Unless you've changed the parameters on the server, and I'm not mistaken, the only two names that are recognized by the search engines as "home page" are index and default.[This message has been edited by pageoneresults (edited 03-14-2001).]

Another technique would be: http://www.keyword.phrase.yourdomain.com/index.htm. I've seen this used successfully with other sites holding top positions. [This message has been edited by pageoneresults (edited 03-14-2001).]

get a real domain, real hosting, and add content that people honestly will want to go to. then you should be fine. I hate when people whine that they get no traffic when they have barey any content, and there adress is something like websites.freehost.org/jdogb/index8/max.html you get what im saying?
