    I was wondering if there is a site or a tool that would allow from me to spot potential issues with redirects, server issues,etc...that would affect the ranking of a website.

    Problems with redirects could be looked at by using a http header viewer - some examples:
    http://www.rexswain.com/httpview.html
    http://www.delorie.com/web/headers.html
    http://www.webmaster-toolkit.com/http-header-viewer.shtml
