I am using the free trial of wordtracker just to see what its like, and i entered in some of my keywords. Its telling me that fot the search term "web hosting" there are only about 9955 requests per day on all search engines + directories ! I think this is very low and doesnt seem right to me. Then again i dont know too much about this.

Did you use quotes when you searched for this term? If so, then consider the fact that more people search without quotes than those who search with quotes. Wordtracker is reporting that for the term web hosting (without quotes) about 3000 people searched in the last 24 hours on Google.

From what I can tell, that appears to be "somewhat" right.

Well if its true its scary. A couple of million websites all optimised for 10,000 hits a day ? Because i have niche site in the web hosting catagory so i would be optimizing for an even worse keyword. Something tells me it cant be right, then again...

Hang on, Wordtracker uses results from meta search engines (Dogpile and, eh, another one I can't recall) so how do you know that 3000 people searched for web hosting on Google in the last 24 hours? *prepares to be shot down in flames *

I thought that too - my wordtraker report states that the results are from metacrawler/dogpile etc.

Dunno yet, but I'm gonna find out. Googles partner in Norway, Kvasir, has a public search-thingy, so obviously, these numbers must be available in Google somewhere as well.
