We are ready to get a tool to help us with SEO, site promotion, etc. But, we are not sure which one to get. Could anyone help us sort through these? What are the differences? Strengths, weaknesses, niches? Is there a better tool?
WebPosition Gold
Arelis
Optilink
Web CEO
Wordtracker
Thanks.

Hi Robert, welcome to the forums
We had a thread a while ago discussing the merits of the major contentors which may interest you: http://www.jimworld.com/apps/webmaster.forums/action::thread/thread::1063997280/forum::seo-tools/
All the tools you've mentioned have different functions and many can be used in conjunction with each other. Of your list, I would recommend a combination of Optilink (link analysis and optimisation), Web CEO (multiple tools) and Wordtracker (keyword research). However remember there are many free tools available that have a great deal of functionality also, such as the suites provided by Digitalpoint and Gorank, and myself
BTW, could you remove your signature from your post as they are against our TOS.

Nice post there JimGuide... and oh so correct!
There is no one tool. As a matter of fact Google has gotten so complicated all of the tools you mention may not help too much.
I use many of the better tools (as well as the REAL NUMBER ONE tool) and it's still impossible to totally figure out what Google is doing.
I firmly believe Google is using some metrics in their algorithms that NO tools have access to.

Hi I'm new here.
What do you mean by:
"I use many of the better tools (as well as the REAL NUMBER ONE tool)"
Which are these better tools - if you don't mind me asking
and which i the REAL No.1 tool?
It sounds very interesting.
I'm looking at:

Web CEO

HY,
I work for a company who makes a ranking software and my advice is that you should be aware of what your needs are and make sure the software you choose fulfills them. Here are some of the "must have" features in a web ranking software.
-Emulates manual searches during the ranking process
-Provides fast search engine signature updates
-Supports major international and local search engines
...
There are many software on the net do not hurry to buy one until you test it.

I always thought the "real number one tool" was your brain.

I'm not sure what kind of explanation you want.
I pretty much meant what I said.
The knowledge and experience that you store in your brain as you learn through trial and error is the absolute number one tool you can use in optimizing Web sites. There are certainly tools out there that can help cut down the time it takes to do things, but no tool can ever replace the knowledge of good SEO experience.
