Hi All
Im a newbie to these forums. I am currently starting my companies first SEO project for their website. I was given some new software named SubmitWolf and told to use it for submission. This is my first attempt at this and am totally in the dark, traditionally I am a graphic/web designer. After doing a little research on the searchenginewatch.com website I found a few articles that discouraged the use of software like this. What are the pro's and con's of this type of submission? I look forward to hearing some expert opinions. Thanx.

---------

Who told you to use SubmitWolf for submission? I highly recommend that you don't use any automated submission tools.

Searchenginewatch is right, you shouldn't be using them. They're a waste of time and could get you banned from the search engines because they don't like the use of automated tools.

My Boss bought me the software last week. Why do the engines dislike automated programs? Do you know how they can detect you using such software?

The search engines dislike automated programs because it puts a load on their servers. They have very active spiders/bots that find web pages through links to them on other websites. (So getting links to your site is better than using an automated program.)

They can detect that you're using automated software and will even block you from accessing their website if you're not careful.

Does this include sites like www.addme.com?

Yes, there's no need to use SubmitWolf or Addme.com. They're automated, and the search engines don't like automated submissions.

How often should sites be submitted? I hada read that you should submit a site every 30 days. Is that true?

If you are just starting out with trying to position your website on the search engines.. you need to forget about submitting your website anywhere as a first step.

It is far better to firstly make sure that your website is search engine friendly. A well put together website that is structured correctly and is information rich with a focus on allowing access to your visitor in a clear and simple way is a cornerstone to success. Without a site that is indexable and meaningful to the search engines submitting is a bit useless.

There are many helps around where you can learn the basics of optimising your website.. once that is attended to then launching your website is really one of "integration" into the existing web... this can be achieved by establishing links from other websites, directories & portals.. the major search engines will pick up the site from there and index it naturally. ( no need to submit ).

When considering what is a good place to submit your site to it is better to concentrate on seeking out quality, location & industry specific places that to go with anysort of random or auto submit service or program. A little extra time in research will bring more focused results.

There are many folks around that don't bother to submit their websites anywhere outside of the major directories & establishing a few choice links.. they can do this because they have well built websites that will succeed anyway..

If you want a quicker start than waiting for natural pick up from the search engines then consider paying for inclusion etc...
