    Hi People,

I've been doing some research about search engines recently, finding out which ones serve up each others content, share data, cross-populate etc etc..

However I'm coming across a lot of conflicting information.

Do you professional SEO guys have a definitive list of Search Engines that you will always manually submit sites to?

    Any information greatfully received,

    Thanks,
    Billy (UK)

    Welcome to the forums, billyappius.

Generally speaking, it's not recommended that you submit your site to search engines. Letting them find you through links to your site is much better.

However, what you need to do is to submit to the directories (not the search engines). Bruce Clay has a great search engine relationship chart.

If it is an industry specific or regional web site then tailoring submissions to lesser search engines, directories and portals is good as well.. the major search engines will pick up your site from links generated by this, as well as links from other web sites and the larger directories etc.. you will find on the relationship chart above.

I use my own spreadsheet that is created as a list I can choose from but I don't use any automated software or submit anywhere it is not appropriate for the new site in question.

Taking your time and adding listing or linking is a good thing.
