i'm looking to find out traffic details for the top sites within numerous areas. For example Travel, 1. Holiday.com 2. flights.com etc etc.

But I'm interested in lots of categories. Alexa is quite good for ballpark figures but i'm looking for something more accurate.

In the UK there was a magazine like 'new media' or something that would have sites listed by traffic in specific areas.

Does anyone know of somwhere that can provide me this kind of comprehensive detail without ideally having to sell my kidneys to pay for it?

Try this site: [link]

True traffic details are impossible to track consistently by any outside agencies. So the figure they give may not be accurate, but it serves the purpose of comparing websites with similar target theme.

Yes - you don't need to sell any vital organ to get the reports. They are available free - I mean the traffic report - not kidneys.

Don't use Alexa as any type of measuring stick. It only tracks those that have the Alexa tool bar installed.
