Can anyone recommend a good Search Engine friendly forum? I've had a look around and I am considering vbulletin to be the top contender at the moment. Also I cannot recal what forum software this website is running?
I don't mind paying obviously, however I have another client who would like a REALLY basic free messageboard. There sems to be a HUUUUGE choice here and I am a little lost. I prefer to go with recommendations and any help (especially with the free one) would be really appreciated!
thanks for your time

Vbulletin is unfriendly in many ways. Investigate the links that include &action=nextoldest and &action=nextnewest in the URL to work how why (hint: duplicate content issues, and additional major non-canonical URL problems for threads that are bumped).

eeks. thanks g1smd!
I originally liked that one as some of the forums that use it were coming up near the top of the results, when I searched for a few test keyphrases. It also looked easy to manage!
Back to the drawing board then :p

If you can edit the script to add rel="nofollow" to some of the links, and can add <meta name="robots" content="noindex"> to all login, reply, private message, and other "non content" pages, then you may be able to control what is indexed, and how. You need to set this up before the forum goes live, because Google will keep forever any URLs that it finds: make sure that it doesn't find any that you didn't want indexed.
