Hello,
1. Can I use Free Templates to create websites for other people, and get paid for it ?

2. If I can and someone pays me to do a website for them wouldnt they expect to own the code etc...how would it work ? Using Free Templates how would I deal with the question "Do I own the site ?" ie "Copyright" or "ownership" issues of websites built using Free Templates ?

As you can tell, I really dont have a clue where to start with all this and could do with some...ok a lot of help Haha....MUCH appreciated !

Thanks

Depends where you got the free templates from.

Read their terms and conditions - some say "non-commercial use only", some really don't care.

But it's up to them. They own them, and they decide what conditions to attach (if any) when they 'give them away'.

Often, of course, they aren't giving anything away, once you read the small print (except maybe some pop-up ads and scumware.

Remember Quadrille's Oft-Quoted 17th Law:
Beware of Geeks Bearing Gifs ..

Of course, this great line is the updated version of the old "Beware of Greeks Bearing Gifts", and it applies in this case. Just because it says FREE does not mean it is - or that you'd be wise to accept the gift. Always read the small print - and check the code for rodent infestation.

Hello thanks for your reply to my post.

The "Free Templates" are from "Freesitetemplates.com" who have a link at the top of this Forum page, but I cant find any terms & conditions regarding these Free Templates...Would each template have its own Terms and Conditions then if they are from different designers...but where to find these ?

Freesitetemplates link to this forum for support...if you can help further...thanks

Free templates are great to use as a basis for the site design and layout. They should not be used "as is" out of the box. You should customize and optimize them before using them on a live site. Isn't one of the goals to have a unigue site and not look like everyone else.

Free templates are not a replacement for not knowing css, html, php, VB etc. They are great time savers.

The FAQ doesn't mention any restrictions ...
