I have been trying to resolve some issues with Hyperseek for many months and frankly grew annoyed with the support offered by JJS whom purchased the rights to the software suite from iWeb.
There are quite a few small but critical bugs even in the latest versions like the failure of the image (site icon) tags for member listings and xml data to be displayed, spider issues returning top category only, the dreadful one where in the data/global.config file the default permissions allow you to view the location of the admin.php file and the admin password in plain text and the list went on and on unfortunately. However I kept pushing JJS and wrote to them many times, in my last email I told them straight that I didn't mind paying for support on issues and even for improvements as they no longer seemed to be interested in the product but in all fairness that to ask me to pay for bugs to be fixed which would then be freely distributed to other licence holders was a ridiculous suggestion, the company should fix their problems with the software and not charge the users... that's product support after all.
This is the unedited reply received from -name removed- of JJS Software and to me this reads that Hyperseek is in effect, no longer supported;
David,
In the database provided to me by iWeb, you are marked as having the full version, not the source code version. If you would like to provide me with login (FTP) information to your site, I can check the actual code installed on your server. If it is the source code I will update your license type in the account center.
I understand where you are and imagine it to be very frustrating. Our situation is this. When JJS purchased the rights to sell Hyperseek, iWeb was supposed to provide a stable and finished version as well as a variety of other requirements. To address the issues that you are requesting be addressed, the cost to us would be several thousand dollars. This of course is before we would be able to provide any updates to the software for new features, accounts center, etc.
We contacted iWeb with this information several months back. iWeb is not updating the software with the issues you requested. Due to this fact we will not be updating the Hyperseek software with any new features, nor resolving any of the issues that iWeb was obligated to address. We have informed iWeb that we will continue to support the Hyperseek customers by providing paid support but will not be updating the software in any manner.

Dave,
This is John, formerly of iWeb. Jennifer is correct in her response to you. Her company bought Hyperseek from us 2+ years ago, and had agreed to provide support for it. There were a lot of internal factors at play that explain the reasons why new versions didn't get released, and why some of the older bugs never got fixed. The long and short of it is that they (JJS) had some unfortunate experiences with some of their staff which prevented them from moving forward with the project. From my end, after nearly 2 years removed from Hyperseek, I was not (and am not) in a position to come in and revisit the programs at no charge --- that policy is what killed iWeb the first time around. Both Jennifer and Myself are happy to provide service, but neither of us can afford to work for free.
It can be debated (and has been) that someone should not pay to have a bug fixed. I would argue back that it's the service and support fees that software companies charge that funds the development and bug-hunting apparatus. Without $$ coming in, there is no way to pay people to do the dirty work. Such is the nature of the beast. With everyone paying into the pot, you can get a lot done and move forward. If everyone refuses to pay, and/or demands service for free, you can imagine the pile-up that causes both in workload and outlay.
BTW, the dreadful one where in the data/global.config file the default permissions allow you to view the location of the admin.php file and the admin password in plain text is easily fixed by putting a file called ".htaccess" in your data directory that simply contains the line "Deny From All" in it. That file should also be placed in your dsX directory, if you have one. As far as I know, the program ships with that file in place.
