Name of Site/Business: The Web Server Times

Site's Main Purpose: Information

Please Review the following:
Does the home page sufficiently convince people to go further into the site?

Does/can the site achieve its main purpose?

Navigation. Is it clear and easy to understand?

Is the Contact, Privacy and Legal information adequate in relation to main purpose of site?

Search engine marketing. Can the pages be reasonably well indexed by search engines?

Additional Comments/Notes
The Web Server Times features articles for Webmasters about web security, e-biz trends and emerging technology. (My web stats tell me that those subjects interest the visitors the most.)

The USP is to get visitors to subscribe to the monthly newsletter. I'm planning to add 2- or 3-line promos for the newsletter subscription on the bottom of each page.

Do you think the articles on the site would help you do a better job as a webmaster? Would they help you keep up to date on how the latest IT developments affect your job, your managers and your clients?

I'm more concerned about the quality of the articles than about the design, which I've tried to keep clean and simple.

Many thanks for your time,

Roy

"more concerned about the quality of the articles than about the design"

As is evident wink All I see when I view your pages in Opera, is the article. I don't see the nav, the banner, or the left and right column content.

Other than the fact that only one article can be viewed in Opera, the home page one, a very nice site with good spider food.

In IE5/Mac running 800x600, I'm getting the bottom of the nav images cut off. Plus, they don't work as links.

Your left side news column is vertically centered when it would be more effective if it were top aligned.

Thanks for the feedback. So far, I've viewed the site only with IE on PCs, so it appears I have some work to do.smile

Visually, not too shabby, manwink

However, I think the "Latest News" and "Advertisement" should be moved down below the arch you have there.

I'd also recommend using CSS for font formatting instead of using <font color="#000000" face="Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans serif" size="-1"> etc. I can see that you've used FrontPage XP to make the site, and you have alot of inline CSS formatting that you really don't need. If you're competent enough to do so, I'd highly recommend going through your code by hand and remove the excessive code to reduce the filesize.

Hope this helpswink

Hi Roy,

What can I say about your site? It is fantastic. I like the design, colors and layout.

Nevertheless, I have small notes:
1. "The Web Beruer Times" - is difficult to read. Try other fonts.
2. I think "Latest News" and "Advertisement" bloks need 1 pixel border or shadow maybe. As now it merges with background.
3. News should be separated by new line (<br> tag) as now it is gard to understand where previous news ends and next starts.

Good Luck!

Eugene
