It doesn't look like Google, Inktomi, or their own results. It's very odd stuff. Where are the results coming from?

Actually looks like some really strange reordering of Inktomi results. What do you think?

Interesting...at home (South Florida) I see the Google ordered results...at work with a different IP I see scrambled Inktomi results (relevancy is quite unimpressive)...maybe they are testing. Seems like it needs some tweaking to get it right. The old Yahoo directory results were better. It's interesting that the ordering of the new results is quite different than you get on a pure inktomi search.

I am getting the new results on my box too. I am actually quite impressed with the results. My site, as well as what I would consider my quality competitors all have prominent listings; unlike google who displays forum entries for competitive keywords...

I was hoping for pure Inktomi as well. In the categories that I follow a lot of outdated web sites are being returned quite high.

I've sent this comment to Yahoo, but I'm hoping they read it here!!!

If they are going to leave Google and expect to once again actually compete as a SE,

THEY NEED TO:

1) Provide a decent and reliable place for us to FREE submit URLs! (PositionTech and the others have no place in this process). Used to we could submit to Inktomi in a round-about way through MSN's bCentral, but that no longer works.

2) They can charge for their directory, but they should not expect to be able to charge for every URL submitted. They claim you can submit a non commercial site for free, but in the past 6 months I've submitted several with NO SUCCESS.

3) They need to decide what role each of the SE's they bought will play and be open about their plans -- they may not know it yet, but people are not looking for another IRS attitude SE.

4) They need to get their crawlers working better. Inktomi does not crawl that well and indexes even slower. AllTheWeb crawls like crazy, but NEVER seems to index. From what I can see, neither of these products do a very good job of crawling and indexing.

What are you defining as a pure inktomi search? Where do you get the inktomi search results?

I think for pure Inktomi results, you have to do an advanced search at MSN. I also use http://search.positiontech.com/InktomiSearch/PositionTechSearch.jsp but I'm not sure if that differs from "pure" inktomi search or not... I wouldn't think so

Up here in Winnipeg Canada I'm seeing a fresh green crop of Inktomi! smile Yahoo is displaying the web pages results by default.

I'm getting a mix here. Some searches are matching Google perfectly, others are matching Ink perfectly, still others look to be an entirely different mix...perhaps Ink remixed with a Yahoo specific algo? Dunno yet...

Still (and always has been) Google for me. Seeing I'm meant to be able to comment on all this, it would be nice if I could have a glimpse of what others are seeing - hint - wink
