I am experiencing some strange stuff. Yesterday I ranked 4th for a term that was 44th the day before. Several other terms were in the top 10 as well. This morning still good....however this afternoon back to 44 again. Have any of you seen similar?

Yes, my listing also keep popping in and out also. They also jump in ranking as you mentioned. Not sure why this is but don't tweak your pages too often.

Results are updated every day and the positioning depends on your site popularity and meta tag quality.

Do the results have anything to do with the directory category where you are listed?
Since 1997, my site was #1 for the main keyword, locality name. It has lately dropped to #11. I noticed that it is listed in a category higher up the chain, rather than in the locality category where it should be. (Back when the site was first listed in Yahoo, I don't think those deeper categories existed.)
