When I look through my logs, I see that the Yahoo bot goes by different names, and was wondering if each of them is actually indexing for the Yahoo search engine database, or do they each serve a different purpose?

    For example:

    ------------------------------------------------------

    (compatible; Yahoo! Slurp; http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/ysearch/slurp)

Yahoo-VerticalCrawler-FormerWebCrawler/3.9 crawler at trd dot overture dot com; [link]

    (compatible; Mozilla 4.0; MSIE 5.5; yahooseeker at yahoo-inc dot com ; http://help.yahoo.com/help/us/shop/merchant/)

    ------------------------------------------------------

Does anyone know the differences (if any) between these bots?

    .

The first one is related with web index and 2nd one is for shopping index.

Thanks Dinkar. I do not have a Yahoo store so was surprised to see the merchant spider, and had thought that "all the web" (middle bot above) was dead & buried, so that too was unexpected. But whatever the reasons, am glad that Yahoo comes around in any form -- in fact, the more the merrier...

The overture bot I expected, as I've been with them since they were goto.com. The one from "shop/merchant/" was the most surprising, since I've never had a yahoo shop. But as I said, their presence is good news, so no complaints on my end -- was just wondering if each of them served a different purpose in the rankings....
