I just launched a new website in mid-March. So far, the bots have spidered my homepage and indexed it but nothing else. It's a photographers' directory and it is imperative that I rank high on the search engines for phrases like "denver wedding photographer" "seattle wedding photographer" and so on. I'm fairly experienced with SEO and have been successful optimizing other websites. But I'm kind of stumped at the moment as to why I'm not even in the top 500 for the keywords I'm targeting. The website is (url in profile, please). If anyone could go out there and check it out, maybe somebody will have some insight into what is going on.
Thanks.

These things take time. You say that it's been since mid-March. That's really not enough time for the search engines to spider the site and list it in the index. Some search engines are faster than others, but give it a few months before you start to see any rankings in the search engines, especially Yahoo!.
In the meantime, it will help out a lot if you start to work on getting links from other on-topic sites to your website.
By the way--welcome to the forums!

Your message was edited so don't know what the url is.
Email me and I'll check it out for you.
I can show you how to immediately get a #1 or #2 listing
in yahoo if your keywords aren't too saturated.

Hey,
Thanks for the info. and the welcome. This is a really great resource for the SEO community. Yeah, I'm probably overly anxious to get up there on the engines so I probably need to be a bit more patient. Also, I currently have about 3 websites linking to me with a 3, 4, & 5 page ranking on Google. Unfortunately, my website has no page rank at the moment. Do you know how many websites have to link to you to get a page ranking?
Thanks again,
Jesse

Larry, Not sure if you got my email so I'm posting now. The website is (listed in my profile). It's a national photographers directory. Any advice you have is most welcome.
