My website was sitting strong on Yahoo's SERP.
It was on the first result page for months now.

Suddenly today, I find it on the 89th position!
I have seen that my rank way "playing" abit in the last few days,
Suddenly I didnt spot it in the result page, and on some other computer next to me, it showed just like always.

The site itself didnt experience any big changes.
Same work as always.

If I search through yahoo.co.uk for instance,
Im ranking real well for my keyword. #2 to be exact.

Which is again, abit strange.
Why would a US site rank better in co.uk?
Even before I was dropped from yahoo.com (as for today), I was ranked #5

This change is being reflected only on my results/site,
it did not affect any of the competitors.

Anyone has an idea on what might cause that
kind of fall? and howcome I still rank more than well on the .co.uk site?

Hi Prestige..

I am also researching why one of the sites I work with suddenly lost a coveted #1 position for a top phrase...and it had held this for months / years as well..

One thing I am seeing in my sector and in the particular keyword phrase search is a sudden appearance of the "shopping comparison sites" .. (like what happened at Google back on November 16, 2003 - that date being burned into my memory when Google introduced us all to the semantic algo)..

Another factor here from my perspective .. is that the listing that was doing so well for so long was our Yahoo Directory listing...which we cannot easily change...even to reflect our current product offerings....

We are fine for the plural of this same phrase...but lost the singular...

Conjecture has it in other forums .. that part of the problem could be with Yahoo itself...some changes in the interface be apparently affecting the CTR that Yahoo experiences by a 20% decline...this would of course affect all sites listing in Yahoo...natural listings as well as Overture ads...

And on May 8/9, 2005 Yahoo did do an update in their SERPs...our important keyword phrase went from #1 to #69 and today shows back and #26 ... but again .. this is our Yahoo Directory listing and we really don't have much control over this...

As you are well aware...Yahoo is and has been for many years completely revenue driven in all their decisions regarding their Search business...

So if they are calculating possible revenue values per "money phrases" per sector...they may be looking to drive more traffic to their PPC / PPI initiatives...

Well,

Weird thing I cant ignore, is how well my search phrases do in
yahoo.co.uk. and for some reason, in yahoo.com they were dropped hard.

and the site is not sitting in the uk, not getting inbound links from there.. nothing.

Any idea?
