First, I'm fairly new to the topic of SEO, so my question may seem pretty basic to some folks. I've read a number of similar posts, but I'd appreciate any feedback.

About a month ago we had nearly 400 page indexed out of nearly 4,000. Then suddenly only our home page was indexed. Yahoo indicated that the reason we no longer had the pages appearing in the search results was due to the fact we used dynanmic links.

So we went back to the drawing board and corrected the link issue. However, our home page still is the only page appearing in search results. Here are our awstats log for Yahoo.

hits bandwidth
Inktomi Slurp 348+145 2.62 MB 19 Dec 2005 - 11:15

Based on my limited understanding of awstats, it looks like their hitting our site, but why is only our home page indexed? Do the hits have a correlation to the number of pages that ultimately become indexed?

Appreciate everyone's thoughts in advance.

THanks

Too early. Slurp isn't hard-wired into Yahoo's indexing. They just give them the cannon fodder. Yahoo (and MSN and AOL and others) take Inktomi's data and run it through their own grinders (algorythms) before assigning you a position.

Each engine's method is different. They compare you against data from other, independent resources and then compare their own historic data, etc., until they arrive at a (mathematical) decision. How long depends upon their requirements, complexity, depth and processing speed.

That's why all the "Get top SE rankings in two weeks!" drivel from shady promoters doesn't mean squat.
