Hi,
My site, creme-de-languedoc.com was doing quite well on Yahoo.com. It rose from about 55 to 35 in the rankings.
And then it plummeted to 95-100 - and has stayed there ever-since.
1: Whatcould have caused this?
2: Can I ask Yahoo to re-consider my site somehow?
Thanks,
- Greg

If Yahoo found problems and those problems aren't fixed, they won't be likely to reconsider.
I'm not sure how the Yahoo treats entries it sees as spam but you have a few that could be causing you problems.
<img src="images/headlines/index.gif" alt="Property for sale and holiday home rentals & gites in Languedoc Rousillon, South of France "
<img src="images/photos/homepagesideshow.gif" alt="Property for sale and rent in Languedoc Rousillon, South France"
and a fair number of others that are fairly similar. I saw a couple of other things that may be a problem for you but am not nearly expert enough on code to be sure.
We do have some folks who are and hopefully one of them will give you some concrete information.

Hi,
Thanks a lot for replying.
Not sure I understand completely. You're saying those alt tags are spam? Why is that? Too long? Because they are all the same? I often put the title as an alt tag on all the image in a page. Is that spamming?
Thanks,
- Greg

the alt tag is meant to be used for non-visual browsers (they sound silly I know). The alt tag is meant to describe the picture.
The title tag is the correct mouse over, but anyway.
Duplicate content could be an issue since www. and creme-de-languedoc.com (non-www) both exist. So you will have to set up a I know and you know there the same thing but the search engines see this as duplicate content.
Those alt tags are border line spam IMO, they are long.
To improve your rankings, you'll have to do the usual stuff of increase inbound links, more/change content, stuff like that

Hi,
Thanks a lot for this. I will shorten all my alt tags. And make them more varied.
As for the non-www version, every site seem to have this - even well-ranked ones. So not sure how I get around that...

It only can really affect you if people start to link to both versions of the site, then your in trouble if nothings done about it.
If everyone is linking to one and not the other, your safe for now.
depending on what server your running (Windows or apache) depends on how to set up the redirect. If it's windows, you'll need to access the IIS and set it up from there. If it's apache, you'll need to access .htaccess file add some coding in there.
If your hosting from a company, they should be able to do it for you, but make sure it's a 301 redirect
301 = gone forever, please don't index Mr. Search engine
302 = gone for now, but will be back, please index Mr. Search engine (means search engines will try and index a blank page, bad, very bad)
