I recently encountered two different search results for the same key word (conducted at the same time) from two different pc's located in two different regions. On one pc the result in Yahoo for website X appeared 2nd position while on the other pc (located elsewhere) website X appeared in 72nd position.
Question: How can one account for this? Does Yahoo have different data centers? I just dont understand.
Newbie here...any answer that could shed some light would be greatly appreciated. If you need more info, just ask.
Thanks much,
Nancy

Well i am also facing a similar sort of problem.
My third party stats package states that an online visitors visits my website comming through yahoo search but on the same day when i do click the displayed referer i just cannot find my website anywhere.
Strange !!!!!!!
Assuming that the stats package might be faulty i wrote a small tracking script myself, but well had some similar cases there after.
That means the visitors definately comes in through that search results from yahoo.
Whats going on hmmmmmm......

I know for instance that google has a number of data centers so that your website might be positioned differently depending on the data center a user is searching on. I just wonder if that is the case with yahoo too. Wish I could answer that for you. I get that too when I look at the referring source on my stats.
Surely someone here can answer that.

I agree with you.
Well when google does that the url changes.
eg. google.com OR google.lv, google.co.in and it reflects that in the domain name extension itself.
With Google it has never happened that the referer shown in the stats never displays the same results when visited again.(a bit here and there is fine)
Yahoo might be having a similar sort of process but no change in extension. They might be managing that internaly based on the user ip searching for results.(which is bad)
If the moderator doesn't minds i am willing to post those search urls.
Although sometimes it does shows below give type of urls :-
http://sg.search.yahoo.com/search?p=xxxxxx

Nilesh
