I'm looking to submit a site to the Yahoo Directory. I've found a suitable directory, but there are 1,000s of other sites listed here. I've also found a suitable directory which has just 8 sites listed.

Should I list the site in the least populated directory.

I'll add another question onto this. Is paying to be listed in the Yahoo directory really just to help pagerank or are people really expecting traffic to come from the Yahoo directory?

Everywhere I read, people mentioned that in order to get traffic to your website you should look at getting quality links to your website.

Yes, that's correct but what I am wondering from some of the pros here is do they feel that the Yahoo directory is good for bringing in traffic or is it really just good for improving pagerank only?

Based on the two directories, what directory do you think would suit me better. They are both relevant in terms of the category, although one directory has far more entries than the other.

Its better to submit a site to a small directory if the PR is high ! But yahoo being a ocean, one could expect a little help from it.

Submit the site to the deepest, most approriate section - if you don't, they'll keep your $299 and reject it.

You can expect traffic and some help in PR - but really, it's just one link, so don't expect miracles.

I personally do not have any of my personal website sin the yahoo directory - I won't pay the fee, and the free submissions I sent in over a year ago have yet to be reviewed...thus, IMO, there are no free submissions anymore.

Just to clarify SportsGuy's first point - if you are rejected you will get reply telling you and you get one more chance - see point 5.1 [link]

IMHO $299 is not a lot of money if you are really serious about your site.
