Does anyone know why Google only sometimes displays a URL in the SERPs? Does it mean it is scheduled to be crawled?

AFAIK it means that Google is aware of the url, but hasn't had time to crawl and index it properly.

Some stay like that forever if Google doesn't think that the page is worth indexing.

I believe it is like that when several of your web pages are similar. it happened to my website once, when I had the top links on top of all the web pages. like 'Home / Contact us /', etc. I found out that if you change them all to pictures (images) then the search engines doesn't see the 'Home / Contact Us' are the first words, It them see the actual content of the web site is seen them. not the Home Links and such what. This has been my experience. Maybe I could be wrong, but as soon as I changed the top of my pages' top links to images the content started showing up on the SERP.

- Please correct me if I am wrong.

No you are not wrong about your website/URLs. But I belive, sofree is talking about the URLs in Google as this one.

What Webmaster-Toolkit.com and g1smd said is true about such URLs.

Such URLs need backlinks to get indexed.

Dinkar that is not the type of URL I meant.

It's when it displays like

www.something.com
similar pages

I think japautoparts_com may be right

This can also happen when the robot is disalloed to index that page in the robots.txt file. Google knows about the page because there are links to it, but it wants to respect the rights of the web designer by not indexing it.

It's happening to quite a few of my pages too. They used to show a description in the search engine results, but now it's just the URL.

I think might have been because those pages were temporarily down while Google was trying to crawl them.

For another website I have I've got two sets of results for the same pages!

One has text the other just the URL. And they are both www.website . I could understand if one set didn't have the www, but they both do.

They will drop one of them within a few weeks.... but which one?

You never can tell, until they do it.

I have noticed some of the URL...similar pages showing up in one of my site's backlinks. I was wondering...my "cached" version of my pages aren't displaying the product images?? I don't recall if that's how it used to be but I don't think so....anyone?

Hey sofree, did any of your search engine results start showing the title and description again?

Nearly all of mine that used to show just the URL are now back to normal. A couple of them have just the page title but no description, though.(maybe Googlebot got a Code 206 while crawling those?)

When I search in the Google "name of my site" I get around 700 results, but many of those (at least dozens) appear with URL only and no cache. I don't know why...
Some of those pages have a high PR, some 3 on 10. I don't understand!

It happened to one of my sites recently. I did nothing, and the problem fixed itself in a few weeks.

On a total of 751 results for a search with the site's name, 140 have only the URL name, without cache. Some mistery!
